Drug Facts Label Together with Kimia Farma
Drug facts label is one of the English subjects taught in grade IX of Junior High School in the first semester. This subject is very useful and close to human life especially students and teachers. In this case, the English teacher of grade IX invited the experts from Kimia Farma to explain and to give complete and accurate information about how to use medicine, when to utilize it, how to consume it, and how to choose the appropriate medicine.
On Monday, September 3rd, Mr Rudi Pranata, S.Farm, Miss Risky Wulandari, S.Farm and Mr Ichsan Wahyudi, S.Farm as the lecturers explained many things about the information contained in drug facts label. There are many new insights gained by grade IX students, such as color symbols stated on drug label that have different meanings. Green means over-the-counter drug, blue means restricted over-the-counter drug, and red means hard drug and psychotropic drug.
Drug with green symbol or over-the-counter drug is drug that is free to be bought in the stores without a doctor’s instruction. The medicine with this symbol is also called OTC (over the counter) medicine. Blue symbol or restricted over-the-counter is also categorized into OTC medicine but the number of purchases is limited. The last one is hard medicine. Hard medicine is a medicine that can only be bought based on a doctor’s prescription.
This activity was able to be held conducively for approximately one and a half hours in the training room. Students seemed very enthusiastic in following the activity. It could be seen from the number of students who actively asked questions in the question and answer session. The next session was post test. The speakers had prepared 10 questions presented through a slide show. Students had to answer questions quickly. Students who got perfect scores would receive gifts from the speakers. There were 6 students who got perfect scores, namely Nazla, Suci Ramdhani, Ridzik, Abdika, Muhammad Zaki, and Muhammad Fitrah.
Furthermore, this activity was ended by taking photos together, giving out certificates, and saying thanks to the presenters. However, positive cooperation between schools and other stakeholders is needed to support teaching and learning activities in schools. Thank you to Kima Farma Lhokseumawe for your support and good cooperation.
